LESSON IDEAS: We decided on a collage project to which students at all levels could contribute.  The theme is “A Day in the Life” of children and teens in Haiti and in the United States.  We plan to use the 2 large color blocks of the Haitian flag as a backdrop for a collage to show common and diverse life experiences, while maintaining the Haitian coat-of-arms in the center.  For example, on the blue background we could show a Haitian student in school and on the red background we could show an American student in school.  In this way students would learn about Haitian culture as well as realize what we share in spite of our differences.  Students could draw, add photos, or write information on the collage.  The motto would be translated into English: 'In union there is strength.' The expectation is that each student does some level of research and contributes something to the banner, which would be displayed prominently.

Other ideas we brainstormed included activities such as a webquest, movie, game, display in a showcase, and fund-raising.
