Lesson Ideas
DEPARTMENT: MCL
CONTACT PEOPLE: Marissa Smith, Susan Shneider
GENERAL LESSON IDEAS: The MCL department will focus mainly on cuisine, language, and, in Spanish classes, the relationship between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
LESSON SPECIFICS: French and Spanish classes will most likely study and compare the target language to French Creole. Maurice or Jean will do recordings in French and Creole so that students may draw comparisons between languages, and French students will read Haitian fairy tales, both in French and in Creole. There has been talk amongst Asian language teachers to research the history of rice and to compare its use in the different cultures. Spanish classes will study the relationship between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, focusing on how language evolved within the island of Hispaniola and how present-day events (earthquake) has altered the two countries' relationship.
