GENERAL LESSON IDEAS: 

 Algebra 1:  Look at the budget of a woman in Haiti, with the final question “can she afford to send her children to school?” We have actual data from the late ‘60s. We may want to somehow incorporate inflation into this activity & think about more recent numbers. ·        


 Geometry: Give some background on voodoo, and voodoo flags in particular. Talk about the geometry that we see in Haitian art. Draw our own pictures, inspired by the voodoo art. We’ve talked about two versions of this lesson – one that is more focused on the geometry as it connects to our current course, and one that is more focused on the Haitian art.·       


 Algebra 2: Using logarithms and real world data. The Richter scale is one example of a logarithmic scale in the real world; this would be mentioned/explored as part of a discussion of the ways logarithms can be useful.
